In 2023 the Argentinian Reynols, one of the most important bands in the history of Experimental music, will have completed 30 years of continuous presence and creativity.

They were formed in 1993 as Burt Reynols Ensemble and were renamed into Reynols in 1996.

They consist of Roberto Conlazo, Alan Courtis and the drummer Miguel Tomasin, who has Down syndrome and is the moving force and “spiritual architect” of the band. The fact that Reynols include a member with special needs is not accidental, as in reality the trajectory of the band in musical experimentation is driven by the vast freed of Tomasin’s mind, thusly giving a provocative and singular character to the group. After all, as Roberto Conlazo says: “The biggest misunderstanding about Reynols is that people say we included Tomasin, but in reality they forget that it is him that included us.” Reynols live in their own universe, away from the boundaries of music genres, with their art concepts being totally unique and original.

Indicative are the cases of “10.000 Chickens’ Symphony” (ten thousand chickens are being recorded in a farm), “Fire Music” (fires being recorded in different areas of Argentina), “Blank Tapes” (creation of a sound piece by through the recording of blank tapes) amongst others. The band also collaborated and shared the stage with the great composer Pauline Oliveros on several occasions.

Reynols are a truly unique case in the history of art.

Miguel Tomasin was awarded the “Henry Viscardi Achievement Award” one of the most important awards about inclusivity, for his role in augmenting the visibility of mentally challenged artists : https://www.viscardicenter.org/viscardi-awards-honor…/

The New York Times published the article “The Drummer Who Reminds People That ‘You Can Play Music as You Like’”: https://www.nytimes.com/…/argentina-miguel-tomasin…

In the context of their anniversary celebrations the band provides rare archival material (press / photos / art media / videos / books / records) to selected people and labels around the world in order for the audiovisual exhibition “Reynols 30th Anniversary Exhibition” to be realised. As part of the 2023 Ametric Festival, the exhibition lasted for eight days, in the properly adjusted space of the BarFly Bar (Potie 14).
